The relationships between parenting behavior and paranoid personality traits: Moderated mediation effect of early maladaptive schemas and immature defense styles

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine whether early maladaptive schema has mediation effects by moderation effects of immature defense styles in the pathway from parenting behavior to paranoid personality traits. Data from 325 undergraduate students were analyzed using regression analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, moderated mediation analysis. The results are as follows: First, early maladaptive schema had full mediation effects in the pathway from father parenting behavior to paranoid personality traits. Second, early maladaptive schema had partial mediation effects in the pathway from mother parenting behavior to paranoid personality traits. Third, immature defense style had moderation effects in the pathway from early maladaptive schema to paranoid personality traits. Fourth, immature defense style had moderated mediation effects through early maladaptive schema in the relationship between parenting behavior and paranoid personality traits. Finally, the meaning and limitation of this study and the suggestions for further study are discussed.
